More About Nottingham
The first thing that comes to mind when you think of Nottingham is Robin Hood…well, it is for us at least. The Disney ‘Robin Hood’ cartoon was a staple in agency owner Suzy’s house when she was growing up, and she still remembers all the songs today! So yeah, who was that guy? He was (is) quite simply a hero of English folklore. A highly skilled archer and swordsman dressed in green who, legend has it, robbed from the rich to feed the poor. There is little evidence available to show that Robin Hood was a real person, but nonetheless the legend persists and is particularly linked to Sherwood Forest, the Royal Forest in Nottinghamshire. You had to be careful travelling through there if you were rich in the olden days!
As well as links to that rascal Robin Hood, Nottingham is famous for its lace-making, Raleigh bicycles (Suzy’s first bike was a Raleigh Lizard in florescent green!) and the tobacco industry. A city with a modern population of 320,000 (bumped up to 730,000 if you include Greater Nottingham), Nottingham’s prosperity was founded on the textile industry during the industrial revolution and, as already mentioned, became an internationally important centre of lace manufacture. The industry fell into decline following World War II and little textile manufacturing takes places in the city today, though the buildings associated have been regenerated and put to new uses
The city has two universities: Nottingham Trent University and University of Nottingham with over 60,000 students attending both. It also contains many art museums and galleries including the Galleries of justice, Nottingham Castle Museum, Nottingham Contemporary Art Museum and the National Videogame Arcade (this sounds right up Suzy’s street). There is also Green’s Windmill and Science Centre – a unique working mill in the heart of the City.
Sport-wise, the city is home to two professional football clubs: Notts County and Nottingham Forest. We can’t say much about them as football BORES US TO TEARS. Give us an Olympic Weightlifting comp any day of the week.
Nottingham is close to East Midlands Airport and Nottingham Station is the second biggest in the Midlands after Birmingham New Street. Trams serve the public in the City Centre and out into some of the suburbs and the city has the largest public bus network. Easy to get around in Nottingham, then!
So what’s a businessman to do when he’s visiting Nottingham and he’s explored all the city has to offer in terms of galleries and museums? He should call Elite Courtesans of course. Just like Robin Hood, we will take your money, but it won’t be robbery. Once you’ve met our ladies, you’ll be begging us to take it (repeatedly)!
