Gloucestershire is one of the jewels in South West England's crown. Gloucestershire boasts a rich and varied history, spectacular countryside such as in the Forest of Dean and the Cotswolds, and draws thousands of visitors each year thanks in part to the Cheltenham Festival. Cheltenham is a beautiful Spa town with impressive regency architecture, plenty of shopping opportunities in both boutiques and main brand stores, stylish hotels and a lively nightlife. Its Montpellier district is cosmopolitan and many visitors to Cheltenham enjoy the open parks nearby. Closely linked to Cheltenham is Gloucester. Gloucester is Gloucestershire's only city. It is small compared to nearby Bristol, but nonetheless is cuturally diverse with one of England's finest Cathedrals, a great rugby club and an historic docks. Gloucester has recently undergone a major face-lift and now boasts a fantastic shopping centre and lots of sought after and stylish accommodation. Gloucester is conveniently located on the M5 motorway (junctions 11 and 12) as is nearby Stroud (junction 13) and Thornbury (junction 14). Gloucestershire is a convenient stop gap for many commuters and travellers thanks to its close proximity to Bristol, Birmingham, Oxford and Swindon. As with Gloucester and Stroud, Cheltenham and nearby Tewkesbury also sit conveniently next to the M5 motorway, junction 10 and 9 retrospectively. But it's not just somewhere for business travellers and commuters. Gloucestershire is also a very popular destination with tourists who enjoy the quaint and idillyic surroundings of the Cotswolds in towns and villages such as Stow, Chipping Campden, Cirencester and Winchcombe.
